General facts
All protective gloves must comply with EN 420 - general requirements for protective gloves. This general standard regulates the minimum requirements for a glove.
The requirements can be summarized as follows:
• The gloves must be fit for purpose
• The construction of the glove and its materials must be safe for the user
• There are certain marking requirements for the manufacturer
• Sizes and dimensions of the glove must meet standard norms for hand sizes
• The pH value must be between 3.5 and 9.5 and the chromium content must be less than 3 mg/kg
Mechanical risks
This pictogram indicates that the glove protects against mechanical risks according to the latest standard updated in 2016.
The higher the number, the better the performance:
a. Abrasion resistance - Highest protection level is 4.
b. Cut resistance - Highest protection level is 5.
c. Tear resistance - Highest protection level is 4.
d. Puncture resistance - Highest protection level is 4.
e. Cut resistance ISO13997 - Highest protection level is F.
f. Impact protection (optional test) - P if approved.
Gloves for food handling have extra high requirements to ensure that hygiene is maintained. They are approved in accordance with the requirements set by the EU for safe food handling. These gloves are particularly suitable for the food industry, commercial kitchens, restaurants, and similar environments.
Gloves with protection against aggressive chemicals are in most cases classified as category III - high-risk protection. They should be certified according to EN374 for the safe handling of chemicals. To choose the right glove, you must provide the CAS number for the chemicals to be handled so that the correct recommendation can be given.

According to EN 388:2016 for Category II, up to 6 different properties are measured:
abrasion resistance, cut resistance, tear strength, puncture resistance, extended cut protection, and impact protection.
A number or letter is then assigned to describe the outcome of the result. The maximum results for each respective property are: abrasion resistance 4, cut resistance 5, tear strength 4, puncture resistance 4, extended cut protection F, and impact protection test which receives a P if approved.
