769® - the miracle product that started it all! Scottish-born sea captain Robert Fergusson noticed that the rusty deck of his ship stopped rusting where fish oil had spilled.

This discovery inspired the captain to develop the first fish-oil-based rust-preventive paint. In 1921, he perfected a paint product that stopped rust and dried overnight without leaving any unpleasant odor. RUST-OLEUM® Corporation was born.
769 enables painting of surfaces and objects that cannot be completely de-rusted by blasting, or where condensation and moisture limit the possibilities with conventional paint systems. 769 should only be used on rusty surfaces capable of absorbing the oily fish oil. 769 can be overcoated with Alkythane® 7500 or, if necessary, 1060/1080 before overcoating with Alkythane 7500.
