Sodium water glass is a medium of pure liquid sodium silicate that strengthens, seals, hardens, and protects mineral surfaces both mechanically and chemically (against acid degradation). Prevents dusting. Completely free from organic additives.
Areas of application
With Sodium water glass, you can:
- Reduce and even out (when different plaster or concrete materials are used) the absorbency of highly absorbent, mineral substrates before painting with silicate paints. Reduces the risk of spotting and chalking.
- Bind dust in plaster and concrete surfaces.
- Seal the concrete’s pores, making it water-repellent while remaining diffusion-open.
- Protect unpainted plaster and concrete against acidification, degradation, and organic growth. This is achieved by raising the pH value, sealing the surface, and increasing mechanical strength.
- Protect and preserve the natural gray color of the plaster or concrete.
Product properties
Sodium water glass silicifies via carbonation with the air's carbon dioxide and the substrate into a very durable surface, while preserving diffusion capacity. The surface absorbs less water in liquid form but can breathe water vapor. Sodium water glass contains no organic additives.
- Silicifies with the substrate.
- Extremely weather-resistant.
- Prevents acid degradation.
- Non-film-forming.
- Very high moisture permeability.
- Non-combustible.
- Absolutely UV-resistant.
- Resistant to fungal and mold growth.
- High pH value.
- Resistant to solvents.
- Environmentally friendly – contains no solvents or preservatives.
- Building-biologically neutral.
Material specifications Density: 1.17 g/cm3 pH value: 11. Color shade Light yellow, clear. Low-viscosity.
Instructions
Preparation of the substrate The mineral substrate must have good absorbency and be dry, clean, and free of dust and grease.
Application
Apply with a brush, roller, or sprayer until the surface is saturated and absorbs no more. For highly absorbent materials such as aerated concrete, use undiluted Sodium water glass. For treatment of concrete floors: Sodium water glass (undiluted with water) is applied with a squeegee, roller, or brush. Wipe off excess between applications when treating polished concrete. The product must not form a film; everything should be absorbed by the substrate. Wipe away any excess.
Conditions of use
Air and substrate temperature > + 5°C. Drying times Drying time should be at least 8 hours between all coats.
Consumption:
For priming a smooth surface: 0.1-0.2 l/m2. The specified consumption values depend on the substrate's absorbency and structure.
Cleaning of tools:
Clean with plenty of water immediately after use.
Storage In original unopened packaging in a dry, cool, but frost-free place, stable for approx. 12 months. Do not expose to heat or direct sunlight.
Waste management
Only completely empty packaging should be sent for recycling.
Safety information
Surfaces not to be treated (glass, natural stone, ceramics, wood, etc.) must be well protected. Splashes on surfaces not to be treated must be immediately dissolved with water and removed. Sodium water glass has corrosive properties. Protect eyes and skin from splashes.
Keep out of reach of children.
