Description
Silicate paint is a covering paint for previously silicate-painted surfaces or unpainted surfaces. The paint is used on lime-cement plaster, cement plaster, concrete, aerated concrete, fiber cement, fiber-reinforced mineral boards, and on old mineral and silicate paints. In addition to providing a clean and fine surface, the paint also protects against moisture damage.

Surface preparation
NEW SURFACES:
Clean unpainted surfaces from dirt, loose particles, and salts. Concrete element surfaces can be painted once the construction moisture has disappeared. Form-cast concrete surfaces should be treated mechanically, e.g., by sandblasting or water blasting, for best adhesion and to remove cement laitance. Newly plastered surfaces should be treated no earlier than after 6-8 weeks of curing.
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES:
Do not paint on organic substrates. Organic paints and coatings must be completely removed using a suitable method, e.g., paint remover, high-pressure washing, sandblasting, or water blasting. The working method is chosen based on the condition of the substrate and the type of paint. Use appropriate protective equipment.
REPAIRS:
Cracks and defects in the construction must be repaired before painting. The repaired areas must be similar in quality and appearance to the surrounding surface. Open up cracks and cavities and repair with a suitable repair mortar, i.e., a mortar that is not harder than the substrate. Poorly bonded plaster should be removed and replastered with the same material and to the same structure as originally existed. Allow the surfaces to cure before painting.
Painting
DENSE SURFACES, PRIMING:
Dense, firm, and hard surfaces should be primed once with a mixture of Beckers Silikatbinder and Beckers Silikatfärg in a 1:2 ratio.
DENSE SURFACES, TOPCOATING:
Topcoating is performed once the primer has dried for at least 12 hours, using Beckers Silikatfärg, which can be thinned with a maximum of 10% water.
POROUS SURFACES, PRIMING:
Porous, absorbent substrates should be primed with a mixture of Beckers Silikatbinder and water in a 1:1 ratio.
POROUS SURFACES, INTERMEDIATE COAT:
The intermediate coat is performed once the primer has dried for at least 12 hours. For the intermediate coat, Beckers Silikatfärg can be thinned with a maximum of 10% Beckers Silikatbinder.
POROUS SURFACES, TOPCOATING:
Topcoating is performed once the intermediate coat has dried for at least 12 hours. For the topcoat, Beckers Silikatfärg can be thinned with a maximum of 10% water.
Important
The surface to be painted must be clean and firm, the air and surface temperature must be at least +5°C, and the relative humidity must be below 80%. Do not paint on sun-heated surfaces or when there is a risk of heavy or prolonged rain. Stir the Silikatfärg thoroughly before use. NOTE: Surfaces that are not to be painted, e.g., window glass, natural stone and tile coverings on the facade, and metal surfaces, must be protected well during painting work. Paint splashes should be removed immediately with clean water. Reserve a sufficient amount of paint from the same manufacturing batch for painting a uniform surface. This will avoid potential shade differences. If you must use different batches, paint the junction with a mixture of the new and old batch (e.g., 1:1). Adjust the work so that the junction is in an invisible place.
