Description
Gjøco Deck Oil boat and wood preservative is an impregnating oil based on filtered pine tar, turpentine, alkyds, and anti-mold agents. Gjøco Deck Oil is used on old and new wood, both above and below the waterline. It can also be used on garden furniture and decks.

Product description
Pretreatment
The substrate must be clean, dry, and matted. Remove grease and contaminants with Gjøco House Wash. For previously treated wood, scrape off loose oil and use a steel brush on weathered surfaces down to fresh wood. Surfaces attacked by fungi and green algae should be treated with Gjøco Algae Remover. Let dry before proceeding with treatment.
Instructions for use
Stir well before use. Gjøco Deck Oil contains tar, and repeated treatments will therefore make the wood darker.
New or absorbent untreated decking
- New or absorbent wood should be treated wet-on-wet with Gjøco Deck Oil thinned with 30-50% turpentine. Then, apply 2-3 coats of pure Gjøco Deck Oil.
- The deck must be clean, dry, and free from preservative deposits.
- Apply Deck Oil with a brush or roller, working the oil into the wood.
- Let the oil soak in for 10–20 minutes.
- Wipe off all excess with a lint-free cloth.
- For very absorbent wood: apply a second coat wet-on-wet, wiping off the excess again.
➡ Result: Matte, natural surface without stickiness.
Previously oiled decking
- Wash with deck wash / algae wash.
- Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
- Apply a thin coat of Deck Oil.
- Wipe off excess after 10–15 minutes.
➡ Result: Refreshed surface, even color, no film on the surface.
Other information
The product must be stored according to national regulations. The packaging must be kept tightly closed and stored in a dry place at an even temperature.

The circumnavigation
A Viking ship, treated with Deck Oil, set off on a circumnavigation that began in Norway and continued via Shetland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Greenland, on to Newfoundland and south along the US coast – all the way to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. During the journey, the wood was exposed to saltwater, harsh weather, strong sun, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Yet the protection held. The oil followed the wood's movements without cracking, peeling, or losing its function.
Behind the trip was the circumnavigator and adventurer Ragnar Thorseth – a central figure in modern Viking ship history. At Håholmen, off the Norwegian coast, that history lives on today.
