Table mat with a pattern designed by William Morris (1834-96). A large number of Morris's patterns can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London - the world's leading museum of art and design. Made in Sweden. Morris was a leading figure in the Arts and Crafts movement during the 19th century and, as a committed conservationist and socialist, he dedicated his life to the idea that art should improve the lives of ordinary people. It was Morris who said, "have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." A printed furnishing fabric from 1883, Strawberry Thief, is one of William Morris's most well-known and popular patterns. It is inspired by the thrushes that often stole fruit in the garden of his country estate, Kelmscott Manor, Oxfordshire. The material is FSC®-certified eucalyptus board with a printed paper on top that is treated with a protective surface, making the product very durable. The back is fitted with a velvety flocked paper that ensures the mat lies firmly on the surface. Made in Sweden. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
