Place mat with a pattern designed by William Morris (1834-96). A large number of Morris's patterns can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London - the world's leading museum of art and design. Made in Sweden. The pattern was first produced in 1868-70 as wallpaper under the name "Indian". It was originally drawn by George Gilbert Scott and later taken over by Morris. William Morris (1834-1896) was an English textile designer and author, as well as a leading figure of the Arts and Crafts movement. He was also a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and their production methods. The V&A holds an extensive collection of his designs, which remain a source of inspiration for artists all over the world. The material is FSC®-certified eucalyptus board with a printed paper top, treated with a protective surface that makes the product highly durable. The back is finished with a velvety flocked paper, ensuring the mat stays firmly in place on the surface. Made in Sweden. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
