Gjøco Wood Oil XO Clear is a penetrating, solvent-based wood oil specially formulated for pressure-treated wood outdoors. With added film preservatives against mold, it actively protects against graying, cracking, and weathering – and keeps your wood healthy season after season.
Perfect for decks, patios, garden furniture, windscreens, and wooden shutters made of pressure-treated timber. For light-colored wood species, pigmented oil is recommended for even better protection.
How to do it
Pre-treatment
The surface must be clean and dry. New pressure-treated wood needs to dry for a few weeks up to 1–2 months before treatment. Rinse and brush away any treatment residues and clean with Gjøco Deck Cleaner according to instructions. Allow to dry thoroughly.
Old/previously treated wood: Clean with Gjøco Deck Cleaner. Gray, weathered surfaces should be steel-brushed or sanded down to fresh wood – loose splinters and gray wood hinder penetration and can cause flaking.
Application
Stir thoroughly before use. Apply 1–2 coats wet-on-wet with a brush or roller. The oil must penetrate the wood – avoid film formation, as this can lead to flaking. Wipe off excess oil along the wood grain with a lint-free cloth.
Storage & waste disposal
Store upright, in a dry, frost-free place with the lid tightly closed. Liquid residues must be taken to an approved collection point for hazardous waste. Empty, clean, and dry packaging should be taken to an approved recycling facility.

Which surfaces is Gjøco Wood Oil XO Clear suitable for?
The product is developed for pressure-treated wood outdoors – decks, patios, garden furniture, windscreens, and wooden shutters. It is not suitable for painted or lacquered surfaces.
How long does the oil last?
The service life depends on exposure, wood species, and the condition of the substrate. Generally, treatment is recommended every one to two years for the best protection against weathering and graying.
What does solvent-based mean?
The oil contains organic solvents (white spirit) that help it penetrate deep into the wood fibers. This provides effective protection from the inside out, but requires good ventilation during application.
How much oil do I need?
Expect approx. 8–10 m² per liter on planed wood. Rough or porous wood absorbs more. Choose size according to your area: 0.75L is enough for approx. 6–7 m², 3L for approx. 24–30 m², and 10L for approx. 80–100 m².
Remember to wipe off all excess that has not dried after 20 minutes; the oil must not form a film.
At what temperature can I apply it?
At least +5 °C. Low temperatures result in longer drying times. Avoid application in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces – the oil needs time to penetrate before it dries.
Do I need to prime?
No, Gjøco Wood Oil XO Clear works as both a primer and topcoat on clean, dry, pressure-treated wood. On new wood, apply 1–2 coats wet-on-wet.
Is the product environmentally friendly?
The product is solvent-based and classified as hazardous waste in liquid form. Empty, clean packaging should be taken to an approved collection point. Always choose the right quantity to minimize waste.
Can I apply it myself or do I need a painter?
You can easily apply it yourself with a brush or roller. Follow the pre-treatment instructions carefully – a clean and dry surface is the key to a successful result.
