A nice-looking facade is just a bonus
That freshly painted facades look good is just a bonus. Regardless of the color you choose, it is the paint's resistant properties that really matter for your house. Two solid and well-applied coats of paint protect wood, plaster, window frames, and more. The paint keeps the surface dry – and dry surfaces can last indefinitely. Conversely, moisture-damaged surfaces are easy targets for algae and mold, which break down wood and crumble plaster. That is why it is so important to seal cracks and cavities before you paint – and to paint end grain and other invisible areas. Rain and wind always reach further than the eye can see.
It’s the thickness that counts
Facade paints are thick and creamy and are easy to apply and spread. Already painted surfaces should be coated with at least two generous layers. Unpainted surfaces must also be primed first.
Remember that modern paints create a "sacrificial layer" against the elements. This sacrificial layer must withstand weather and wind, alternating sun and heat, and snow and cold, and therefore must not be too thin if you want to avoid having to paint often.
